Masterchef only entertainment program to crack 1m metro viewers on Tuesday night


Free-to-air television’s tentpole reality franchises are all heading towards the pointy end of the competition, however only Ten’s Masterchef managed to surpass 1m metro viewers last night.

It topped prime-time viewing with 1.010m metro viewers, ahead of Nine’s The Voice (739,000) and Seven’s Big Brother (714,000).

 

With the addition of regional viewers, all three programs surpassed 1m viewers, with Masterchef securing 1.286m, The Voice 1.044m, and Big Brother closing the gap to 1.039m.

Masterchef also topped the key advertising demographics of those aged 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54. Big Brother was second in the younger two, however Nine News snuck ahead in the 25-54s.

Despite Big Brother placing third in the time slot, Seven said 41,000 people streamed the episode, making the show the top commercial free-to-air program on broadcast video on demand (BVOD).

Seven did have the most-watched program with its News offering the most-watched program both in the cities (1.208m) and nationally (1.865m).

Its entertainment offerings Home and Away and The Chase had 677,000 and 675,000 respectively, which climbed to 1.088m and 1.083m with regional viewers.

In the breakfast battle, Sunrise on Seven had 275,000 (459,000 including the regions), beating out Nine’s Today, which had 216,000 in the cities and 320,000 overall.

It was, however, Nine’s night, with the channel pulling a 21.2% share, ahead of Seven’s 17.8%, Ten’s 15.4%, ABC’s 9.5% and SBS’ 5.5%.

Seven’s 7Two and Ten’s Bold both had the top shares amongst the multi-channels, with 3.4% apiece.

Nine Network remained on top though, with 29.4%. Seven was second with 26.0%, while Network Ten had 21.3%, ABC 14.2% and SBS 9.1%.
